1st Year Boys Win Regional Title

For the first time in seven years the First Year Boys’ Basketball Team have won the West Boys ‘B’ Regional Title after a very convincing performance against Scoil Chuimsitheach Chiarain Carraroe in the final in NUIG Kingfisher.

The team, captained by James Duggan, have been the surprise package of the year with a lot of the players not having played basketball before coming into the school. The team beat CBS Ennistymon, St. Paul’s Oughterard, Castlerea C.S. and St. Mary’s College on the way to the Regional Final. In the final James Duggan, Ciaran Anthony and Eoin Dunne were the stand-out players in a very impressive performance.

The team competed in the All-Ireland playoffs in Inchicore, where they performed extraordinarily well. They beat Castleknock Community College by 2 points but lost out to Rochestown College 55-38 in a very entertaining match.

It was a very successful season for this team and if the improvement they showed this year continues then the future is very bright for this group of players.
